London Irish visit Aldershot and Fleet
http://www.london-irish.com/News/Aldershot_and_Fleet_RFC_Receive_Special_Community_Roadshow_Visit.html
A+F's own Sam Robinson (age 14) has been presented with the London Irish Master-class player of the week award.
Sam, of Aldershot & Fleet Rugby Club, has only been playing rugby seriously for five months and joined with over 50 boys taking part in the rugby camp which took place during the half term holiday.
Throughout the 2 day course the boys got to work on improving all aspects of their rugby and were mentored by a designated community coach. They also got the unique opportunity to meet London Irish player Seilala Mapusua who commented on how high the standard of rugby was and encouraged everyone to keep training hard. “It’s great to see so many youngsters involved in rugby who are keen to improve their skills. If they keep working hard, I’m sure we’ll be seeing some of them putting on a London Irish shirt and running out on to the Madejski Stadium pitch in the not too distant future!” said Seilala Mapusua.
To help motivate the participants prizes were given out at the end of each day and, at the end of the camp, Sam was declared to be the Master-class player of the week. London Irish Community Development Manager, Philippos Kyriacou, remarked what an achievement it was for Sam to have developed his game so far in a just a few months, particularly playing in the demanding position of tight-head prop! Aldershot & Fleet Rugby Club are currently looking for people to volunteer as coaches to develop its younger teams. If you are a rugby coach or think you may want to become one please contact 0871 208 9555.
