U11's

Under 11's is the 3rd and last stage of the 3 stages of mini / midi rugby before moving up to junior 15 player rugby.

  • 12 players in a side, 5 forwards, 7 backs.
  • The Forwards consist of a front row, Loose head Prop, Hooker and Tight head prop, and two second row players or "Locks".
  • The backs include the 2 half backs (Scrum half, Fly half) 2 centres (inside and outside centres) 2 wingers and a full back.
  • The object of the game is to score a try worth 5 points and then to try to convert that try for an extra 2 points.
  • Kicking is allowed for the first time, but is limited to kicking out of hand and not off the floor (known as fly hacking).
  • No Handing or Fending off tacklers, no barging or scrag tackles (grabbing someone and swinging them round).
  • Full contact tackling.
  • Any tackle at or above armpit height is considered dangerous! not allowed and will result in a penalty against you.
  • Drop kicks are used when starting or restarting the game (This is a kick from hand that touches the ground as or before you kick it).
  • Kicks are awarded for penalties (this does not include kicks at goal, but does allow you to kick for touch and have the throw in and to tap the ball with your foot then pass, providing the ball leaves your hands).
  • During any kick offs players must be behind the kicker, whilst the opposing team must be 7 metres back towards there own try line.
  • Scrum – 3 player front row and 2 players second row, contested scrum (pushing permitted and can be won by either team) a scrum is awarded when the ball is knocked or passed forward.
  • The team awarded the scrum puts the ball in from the left.
  • Do not begin to push till the ball has been put into the scrum. The scrum should not go any further than 1.5 meters or rotate more than 45 degrees.
  • When scrummaging listen to the referee and follow his instructions, which should be Crouch, Touch, Hold, and Engage.
  • The opposing team not putting the ball into a scrum must remain behind the hindmost foot of the scrum, with their scrum half go no further than the tunnel of the scrum. They are not allowed to move until either the ball emerges or the scrum half who is receiving the ball places his hand on it.
  • Line outs are fully contested and are made up of 4 players, a hooker and scrum half from each side, the Hooker throws the ball in (Quick throw ins or Lifting is not allowed at this age group).
  • Offside Line (Line Out) – All backs must be 7m from the line of touch except the scrum halves and the opposing hooker who must remain in the 2m line from touch.
  • If the whistle blows you should IMMEDIATELY stop what you´re doing and stand still. This is especially important when scrummaging stop everything and stand up.
